Established Murphy yards with mature planting

Murphy's residential streets have had time to grow in, and a lot of the yards we visit have shrubs planted twenty years ago that are now crowding windows and walkways. That changes the work. Instead of designing from scratch we are usually cutting back, taking out what has outgrown its spot, and rebuilding the bed line around the plants worth keeping.

Mature trees also mean shade, and shade means Bermuda thins out. We will say when a patch is better served by a mulched bed or a border than by more sod.

Fence lines between neighbours and along creeks

Plenty of Murphy backyards back onto greenbelt or a drainage way rather than another fence, and those runs take the weather differently. Ground stays damp longer at the low end, posts rot from the base up, and the panel nearest the slope is usually the first to lean.

We walk the whole line before quoting so you know which sections are sound and which are near the end. On shared lines between neighbours we keep the work to your side of the property line unless both households have agreed otherwise.

Summer heat and the clay underneath

Murphy sits on the same heavy blackland clay as the rest of this stretch of Collin County. It holds water after a storm then cracks open in August, which is hard on new planting and hard on anything set into the ground.

So we loosen a wider hole than the pot when planting, mulch to slow evaporation, and time bigger installs away from the worst of the summer where the schedule allows. Our working hours are 8am to 5pm, and in high summer we start at the front of the day.
